A part of the popular Kaura Modern Market located opposite the Prince and Princess Market in the Kaura District of Abuja has been gutted by fire.

The fire incident, which reportedly started a few minutes after 11 pm on Friday, razed about 40 shops, with items such as foodstuff, household appliances and others destroyed.

The Acting Director of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, stated that the fire was caused by an electrical spark on a power change-over installed in one of the shops.

He said the incident was aggravated by a generator kept inside the shop where the fire started.

He added that the incident was reported at 11:11 pm but was put out at 1:59 am by combined teams of emergency responders from the FCT and Federal Fire Service.
