League Elects New Exco as Remi Itie Emerges President

In a closely contested election held on Thursday, Mrs. Remi Itie emerged victorious as the new president of the League of Maritime Editors (LOME), leading an eight-member executive team set to steer the organization for the next two years.

Itie secured the presidency by a narrow margin, garnering 11 out of 19 votes, edging out her opponent, Mr. Eddie Iroha, by just three votes.

Joining her in this new executive team are Friday Odoemena as Vice President, Felix Kumuyi as Secretary, Okey Iroegbu as Assistant Secretary, Tony Ohakwe as Treasurer, Godwin Obi as Financial Secretary, Francis Ugwoke as Public Relations Officer and  Shola Mekusi as Welfare Officer.  

While the positions of president and financial secretary were contested, the others were filled unopposed in an electoral process overseen by veteran maritime journalists Funsho Olojo and Chief Innocent Chukwu as the returning officers

Itie who is the Publisher of Pathway Magazine is widely recognized in the industry as “Mama Maritime” for her extensive contributions to maritime journalism. With a rich career spanning roles at the Voice of Nigeria and New Nigerian Newspaper respectively, she brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

In her acceptance speech, Itie expressed her commitment to strengthening professional partnerships and revitalizing the League’s Centre for Maritime Development, Research, and Strategic Engagement. She emphasized her goal of fostering stronger connections and advancing the League’s mission in corporate governance and national growth.
