The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has stepped up efforts to strengthen its strategic partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of a broader push to expand non-oil trade volumes and attract sustainable investments.
This renewed engagement follows Nigeria’s active participation at the recently concluded Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, where the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at exploring strategic collaboration in ports development, maritime logistics and digital solutions.
Building on this momentum, the Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, received the Consul-General of the United Arab Emirates to Nigeria, His Excellency Salem Al-Jaberi, at the Authority’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Dantsoho said the engagement was in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the vision of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy to deepen international partnerships that would drive trade growth.
“On the directive of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our amiable Minister, Adegboyega Oyetola, we are poised to consolidate our synergies with Abu Dhabi as we work to grow trade volumes, particularly in the non-oil sector,” Dantsoho stated.

In his response, Consul-General Salem Al-Jaberi reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Nigeria, describing the relationship as one of strategic importance.
“Nigeria and Abu Dhabi have become strategic partners, and we are ready to double our bilateral and trade relations in the days ahead,” he said.
The meeting was attended by key NPA executives, including Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mrs. Vivian Richard-Edet; Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, Engr. Ibrahim Abba Umar; and Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Engr. Olalekan Badmus.
The engagement ended with a renewed resolve by both parties to explore the full spectrum of trade and investment opportunities capable of deepening economic cooperation and accelerating non-oil trade growth between Nigeria and the UAE.
