—-Vows to make Imo Proud

In a thunderous charge against political mediocrity, Abuja-based Barrister and Real Estate mogul, Chief Success Obioma Akagburuonye, has called on lawyers to stop sitting on the sidelines and instead take the driver’s seat in Nigeria’s political space.
Speaking at a grand reception for Imo State lawyers who attended the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference in Enugu, themed “STAND UP, STAND TALL”, Akagburuonye declared that politics must no longer be left for “the unprepared and the unprincipled.”
> “Politics is about the affairs of man. Let us stop seeing politics as dirty. Let us stop seeing it as a money-making venture. It is service, and we must prepare for it,” he declared to loud applause.
He warned lawyers against political apathy, stressing that indifference to leadership choices comes at a steep price.

“When you say politics doesn’t concern you, eventually it will — and by then, it may be too late. The price of indifference is being ruled by your inferior.”
Akagburuonye, fondly addressed as Akaraugo Mbaise, emphasized that peace and progress in Imo State cannot thrive without the active participation of credible voices in politics. He announced his decision to personally engage organizations, professionals, and stakeholders to ensure lawyers are not mere observers but power players in the state’s political future.
Taking the audience through his inspiring life journey — including a 20-year battle with the EFCC that drove him to study Law — Akagburuonye reiterated his commitment to clean, people-oriented politics.
“I have never been in politics before because I wanted to be sure of myself. But now, I am ready. I will not loot the treasury. I will protect Imo’s interest and make you proud,” he vowed.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, he urged lawyers to scrutinize candidates’ track records carefully before offering support.
> “Start profiling those who want to lead. Know who is credible. My profile is in the public domain, and I am ready to be interrogated.”
On a lighter note, the Imo-born philanthropist promised to sponsor four lawyers to attend the International Bar Conference in Toronto, Canada, later this year — though with a playful caveat that his generosity won’t extend to visa processing.
Akagburuonye also called on the legal community to identify with his empowerment initiative, “HOPE RISING FOR IMOLITES”, which has already trained over 12,000 youths in solar installation, inverter systems, and CCTV technology.
The event, held at De Dome Event Centre, Enugu, was coordinated by Dr. Barrister Udegbulem, who praised Akagburuonye’s vision and assured him of the unwavering support of Imo’s lawyers.
