In a bold push to plug fiscal leakages and boost inflows into the Federation Account, the Federal Government has launched a sweeping nationwide revenue recovery drive, inaugurating over 50 consultants to trace and recover unremitted funds across key sectors of the economy.
The six-month special operation, jointly coordinated by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), marks one of the most ambitious recovery efforts in recent years.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the RMAFC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, described the initiative as a “result-driven innovation” designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure that every recoverable naira due to the Federation is transparently remitted.
“This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate and result-oriented innovation,” Shehu stated. “It demonstrates our commitment to fiscal accountability and our resolve to ensure that all revenues due to the Federation are properly accounted for and remitted.”
He emphasized that engaging the consultants was a strategic move to block revenue leakages, enhance transparency, and expand fiscal capacity at all levels of government, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“With the full support of Mr. President, the Special Adviser on Revenue, and the Executive Chairman of the FIRS, this project aims to identify and recover all unremitted revenues across the economy. It’s a crucial step toward strengthening fiscal sustainability,” Shehu added.
Representing FIRS Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the Coordinating Director of the Service, Shettima Tamadi, hailed the initiative as a timely and visionary effort to boost Nigeria’s fiscal health.
“Nigeria faces a huge revenue gap,” Tamadi admitted. “But with stronger inter-agency collaboration and partnerships like this, we can bridge that gap and drive sustainable fiscal growth.”
RMAFC Secretary Mr. Joseph Nwaeze Okechukwu urged the consultants to approach their assignment with integrity and professionalism, ensuring that all recoverable funds are returned to the Federation Account within the six-month timeframe. He noted that the recovered revenues would directly support the government’s national development priorities.
In his acceptance speech, lead consultant Mr. Temitayo Ojeleke described the engagement as “a national call to duty.”
“We accept this task as partners in Nigeria’s economic renewal,” Ojeleke declared. “We will deliver results that strengthen the nation’s revenue base and help restore public confidence in fiscal management.”
With the government determined to track every unremitted naira, the nationwide recovery drive signals a new era of aggressive fiscal accountability — one that could redefine how Nigeria safeguards and grows its national revenue base.
