Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai have killed at least 21 Boko Haram terrorists during a coordinated ambush in Sojiri and Kayamla villages along the Damboa–Maiduguri Road in Borno State.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), followed credible intelligence indicating that a large group of terrorists was assembling in the area to prepare for coordinated attacks.
Military sources said the troops mobilised swiftly and engaged an estimated 100 terrorists in a fierce gun battle. Despite attempts by another terrorist group to outflank the troops, the soldiers held their positions and overwhelmed the insurgents with superior firepower.
At least 17 bodies were recovered at the scene, while more casualties were suspected as blood trails were seen leading into nearby bushes. Troops also recovered arms, ammunition and other logistics during the operation.
Following the engagement, the troops carried out a tactical withdrawal to stabilise the area and regroup. Morale among the soldiers was described as high despite the intensity of the encounter.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations to protect Maiduguri, Damboa and surrounding communities, and to further degrade the operational capacity of Boko Haram in the North-East.
