The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, has extolled the enduring virtues of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the defunct Northern Nigeria, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacies remain relevant decades after his death.Alhaji Usman Bello made the remarks while serving as Royal Father at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the assassination of the late premier during the January 1966 military coup in Kaduna.

The monarch, a former Comptroller of Customs, urged leaders at all levels of government to build on the legacies of the Sardauna for the overall development of Nigeria. According to him, the late Sardauna’s visionary leadership and foresight laid a solid foundation for the socio-economic development of Northern Nigeria, particularly through the establishment of key institutions of learning such as Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied and graduated in 1981, as well as critical infrastructure that remain in use to this day.
Meanwhile, the guest lecturer, Dr Bala Abdullahi Mohamed of Bayero University, Kano, recalled that Sir Ahmadu Bello successfully fostered unity among the diverse ethnic groups in the defunct Northern Region and implemented policies, projects and programmes that accelerated development across the region.
