The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has celebrated the retirement of one of its most accomplished senior officers, Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) Dera Nnadi (Rtd), marking the end of a remarkable career defined by dedication to national service and institutional growth.

The colourful ceremony, held recently, at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, brought together members of the NCS management team, senior officers, family members and well-wishers who gathered to honour the retiring officer’s impactful career.

The event was particularly symbolic as it coincided with DCG Nnadi’s 60th birthday, making the occasion both a retirement send-off and a milestone birthday celebration.

Leading the tributes, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, described Nnadi as an exemplary officer whose professionalism, discipline and commitment to duty significantly strengthened the operational effectiveness and institutional values of the Service.

According to Adeniyi, the ceremony provided an opportunity not only to celebrate a successful career but also to recognise the sacrifices of officers who dedicate their lives to safeguarding the nation’s economic interests and border security.

“Today is a moment of celebration and reflection. It is also an opportunity for us to thank Almighty God for the grace that has sustained our colleague throughout his years of service,” the CGC said.

He noted that Nnadi’s career embodied the core ideals of the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly in leadership, revenue generation and trade facilitation.

The Comptroller-General also highlighted the personal and professional relationship he shares with the retired officer, noting that their bond extends beyond official duties to family ties. He expressed confidence that Nnadi still has the energy, experience and intellectual capacity to continue contributing to national development through academic and other professional engagements.

Members of the NCS management team also paid glowing tributes to the retired DCG, commending his integrity, leadership qualities and commitment to mentorship.

Several officers who served under him described him as a dependable leader who consistently guided and encouraged younger personnel while strengthening the institutional capacity of the Service.

Responding to the honour, DCG Dera Nnadi (Rtd) expressed deep appreciation to the Comptroller-General, the management team and officers of the Service for their support and cooperation throughout his career.

He described his years in the Nigeria Customs Service as a fulfilling journey marked by learning, growth and dedication to national service.

The ceremony featured the presentation of awards, gift items and commemorative photographs in honour of the distinguished officer.
