The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, threatened to pull out of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the alleged replacement of candidates nominated by his political bloc.
Speaking with journalists on Monday, the Movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, described the reports as unfounded rumours lacking any basis in fact.
Recent media reports had claimed that the Kwankwasiyya Movement was considering leaving the NDC following the substitution of some candidates earlier nominated by the group, a move said to have violated an existing power-sharing arrangement within the party.
However, Mohammed firmly denied the allegations, insisting that neither the Movement nor its leader had expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s internal processes.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining,” he stated.
According to him, the party’s primary elections were conducted on May 29 in accordance with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with successful candidates duly affirmed on the same day.
Mohammed explained that NDC stakeholders had previously agreed on a consensus arrangement where necessary, adopted candidates through mutual understanding, and submitted the final list without any internal disputes.
He further noted that Senator Kwankwaso had not communicated any grievance regarding the party’s decisions to the Movement, stressing that the NDC leadership was in the best position to address any concerns relating to the reported candidate substitutions.
The spokesman urged party members and the public to disregard the speculation, maintaining that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains focused on supporting the party’s objectives and strengthening its political engagement ahead of future electoral contests.
