In the wake of the 58th regular meeting held at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters on December 19, 2023, the Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) made significant strides in reinforcing its leadership team. Chaired by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, the meeting marked a pivotal moment as the Board confirmed the appointment of two accomplished individuals, Assistant Comptrollers General Florence Nano Ogar-Modey and Queen Ogubudu, who now stand as integral members of the NCS Management Team.
This momentous decision was accompanied by the approval of the promotion of 2,209 Senior Officers, a testament to the dedication and outstanding performance demonstrated by personnel during the rigorous 2023 promotion exercise. The comprehensive promotion list reflects the diversity within the service, covering both General Duty (GD) and Support Staff (SS) categories.
The breakdown of the promoted officers showcases a cascading progression across various ranks, exemplifying a recognition of merit and commitment. From Inspector of Customs (IC) to Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASC II), a cohort of 348 individuals ascended. Further elevations ensued, with ASC II to ASC I witnessing 321 promotions, ASC I to Deputy Superintendent of Customs (DSC) celebrating 355 advancements, and DSC to Superintendent of Customs (SC) embracing 207 promoted officers.
The hierarchy continued to evolve as SC progressed to Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) with a notable count of 500 promotions. Moving up the ladder, 333 officers transitioned from CSC to Assistant Comptroller (AC), signifying a remarkable achievement. The journey continued, recognizing the dedication of 78 individuals ascending from AC to Deputy Comptroller (DC). Lastly, 67 officers reached the pinnacle of their careers, transitioning from DC to Customs Comptroller (CC).
This wave of promotions not only underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to meritocracy but also heralds a new era of strengthened leadership and efficiency within the organization. As ACG Florence Nano Ogar-Modey and ACG Queen Ogubudu assume their roles at the helm, the Nigeria Customs Service anticipates enhanced capabilities and a renewed focus on delivering excellence in its crucial role at the forefront of national customs and border security.
Additionally, the board approved special promotions for fourteen officers in recognition of their exceptional performance in various assigned responsibilities.
Among the newly promoted Comptrollers are TM Daniyan, F Fajana, N Isyaku, MV Umana, AC Nwobi, F Abdulqadir, HK Ejibunu, FM Ojiofor, IN Aliyu, MD Malah, EO Oshoba, JK Oladeji, E Luka, AP Daruaku, FM Ojeifor, IN Nwokorie, EJ Harrison and others.
The CG expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed/promoted officers and further urged them to redouble their efforts in fulfilling the critical roles of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and suppression of smuggling.
According to a Statement issued by the Customs Chief Superintendent of Customs , National PRO , Abdullahi Maiwada this , he said ,is to enhance the NCS’s pivotal role in bolstering Nigeria’s socio-economic well-being.
While extending warm wishes for joyous Christmas and New Year celebrations, the CGC further expresses gratitude to the Honorable Minister of Finance for facilitating the timely conclusion of the 2023 promotion cycle. Acknowledging the historic success, the CGC pledges to maintain this momentum in future exercises.
These strategic advancements are in harmony with his vision to fortify leadership, recognize merit, and inspire personnel for sustained success.
