ECOWAS invites Mali’s military leader to summit in Accra

The West African sib-regional bloc, ECOWAS has invited leader of the military junta in Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, to attend Friday’s extraordinary summit holding in Accra, Ghana.

This is according to. a statement released by the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

The statement adds that the bloc is “dedicated to reviewing the evolution of the political situation in the Republic of Mali,” following the stalemate in discussions over the transition timetable between the bloc’s mediator and former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan and the Malian junta.
