The group said that Kanu’s unconditional release will restore peace and security as well as social and economic activities in the five South East states.
They stated this in a communique by their President General/Founder, Lolo Kate Ezeofor, International Representative, United Kingdom, Chinwe Amakalu, United States of America Liaison Officer, Ngozi Olisakwe, Mobilizer (USA), Uzoamaka Ahaneku and Representative in the United Nations, New York, USA, Frances Ndika, among others.
The women lamented that the continued incarceration of the self-determination agitator had neither brought good to the federal government nor the state governments and people of the region.
Instead, they noted that insecurity and joint-security operations had disrupted every sector in the zone, making life unbearable, while many innocent people have also lost their lives. They condemned ongoing destructive security operations that sacked communities in Igbo homeland.
Umuada Igbo Nigeria and in Diaspora which has special consultative status with Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations, New York, USA and Geneva, Switzerland, said that it is desirous of peace in the region and will stop at nothing to achieve that.
“Mr President, as mothers, we have seen enough blood, we have seen our children cut down in their prime, businesses and livelihoods in our homeland have been destroyed.
“As mothers, we bear the brunt of the devastations in the South East and the sufferings of our children. So, with deep respect, we hereby, pray your Excellency to use your good office to direct the release of our son, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS detention. He has in our humble view, overstayed in the DSS custody and this is partly responsible for the insecurity in the region,” the Igbo women stated
