Social media public outrage has compelled the Zamfara State Government in North-West Nigeria to suspend the planned installation of a suspected notorious bandits leader, Ado Aleru as the Sarkin Fulani in Yandoton Daji.

The turbaning ceremony which was slated for Saturday at Yandoton Daji one of the new emirates recently created by the State Government was said to have been suspended indefinitely due to the anger, it generated on the social media space.

Yandoton Daji Emirate was created out of Tsafe Emirate in Tsafe Local Government Area of the State, this year.

According to sources from the emirate, publication of the coronation on some conventional and social media platforms drew the attention of the Zamfara State Government to indefinitely suspend the planned exercise for the repentant bandits leader, Ado Aleru.

Interestingly, Ado Aleru is one of the notorious bandits leaders who have been terrorising innocent citizens in Zamfara and neighbouring Katsina State.

Sources from Yandoton Daji community told Frontline Reporters on condition of anonymity that the decision to turban the notorious bandits’ kingpin as the Sarkin Fulani Yandoton Daji was part of efforts aimed at finding lasting solutions to the current insecurity bedeviling Zamfara State.

Ado Aleru is believed to be the bandits leader who has been spearheading the attacks, killings abduction and rustling of cattles in troubled Tsafe Local Government Area. Some say conferring the traditional title would have forced him to stop his evil act against innocent people.

Sources also disclosed that the decision to confer the traditional title on the suspected notorious bandits leader arose from a dialogue session held between the elders in the Emirate and Ado Aleru, where they appealed to him to stop attacking the communities in the area so that peace can prevail.

It should be noted that the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed had vowed not to dialogue with any bandit, stressing that he had earlier called on them to embrace the peace accord of his administration but some of them refused to lay down their firearms and stop their deadly activities.

For the Yandoton Daji community to sit down and dialogue with the suspected notorious bandit’s leader, Ado Aleru may have called into question the sincerity and genuineness of the decision of the State Governor to stop negotiating with the violent criminals.
