The Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a historic revenue breakthrough, smashing its 2025 target and surging past expectations with an unprecedented ₦1.56 trillion collected as of December 23, 2025.
The Command’s Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, announced the milestone on Tuesday in Lagos, revealing that the figure exceeds the Command’s annual revenue target by a remarkable ₦51.8 billion—with eight days still left before the year ends.
“What makes this achievement even more exciting is that we are still counting,” Onyeka declared, hinting that the final figure for 2025 could climb even higher before the curtain falls on the year.
Briefing journalists on the Command’s year-long performance, Comptroller Onyeka attributed the massive revenue surge to strong stakeholder cooperation, improved compliance with trade regulations, and strategic reforms introduced by the Command.
Central to the success story, he said, is the B’Odogwu Trade Modernisation System, which enhanced operational efficiency, reduced delays, and strengthened transparency in cargo processing.
According to him, imports in general merchandise, bulk cargo, and used vehicles emerged as the biggest revenue drivers, reflecting renewed confidence by importers and port users in the Tin Can Island Command.
Policy Shift That Won Importers’ Trust
Onyeka disclosed that a major turning point was his administration’s policy on multiple alerts, which reduced unnecessary bottlenecks and eased the clearance process.
“By addressing the issue of multiple alerts, we won the confidence of stakeholders. Importers began to channel more consignments to Tin Can, and naturally, revenue increased,” he explained.

The Controller also credited the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, for providing the strategic leadership and institutional support that empowered the Command to perform optimally.
He paid glowing tribute to officers and men of the Tin Can Island Command for their dedication, professionalism, and resilience, noting that the record-breaking revenue was the product of collective hard work and discipline.
Seizures, Enforcement Remain Strong
Beyond revenue, Onyeka revealed that the Command recorded notable successes in anti-smuggling operations, with several seizures of prohibited, falsely declared, and improperly documented goods during the year.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to balancing trade facilitation with strict enforcement, assuring stakeholders that Tin Can Island Command will remain firm against economic sabotage while promoting legitimate trade.
As 2025 winds down, Tin Can Island Customs Command is not just celebrating numbers—it is setting a new benchmark for revenue performance, operational efficiency, and stakeholder engagement in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
