The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, has commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for its pivotal role in deepening public enlightenment and driving national development.
The respected traditional ruler gave the commendation when he received a delegation led by Alhaji Ahmad Sajo, a member of the NIPR Governing Council, and the newly inaugurated executive members of the Katsina State Chapter of the Institute, who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.
Describing the revival of NIPR activities in Katsina State as a welcome development, Alhaji Kankara said the move would strengthen professionalism among public relations officers and enhance ethical communication within government and private sectors.

He urged the new state executive to take advantage of both traditional and digital media to sensitize information officers across the state on the importance of joining the Institute, in line with the new NIPR law which stipulates that only registered members can serve as Public Relations Officers (PROs) in public or private establishments.
The monarch also called for the establishment of a functional secretariat for the state chapter to ensure smooth operations, pledging his full royal support to the Institute’s activities.

Reflecting on his career journey, Alhaji Kankara recalled his days as a reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna, before rising to become a Public Relations Officer in the Nigeria Customs Service, serving at both the Apapa and Tin Can Island Port Commands. He noted with pride that he was honoured as the Best PRO of the Nigeria Customs Service in 1999 during the Annual Customs Conference held in Port Harcourt.

In his remarks, Alhaji Ahmad Sajo said he was in Katsina on behalf of the NIPR National President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, to inaugurate the state chapter of the Institute.
He commended the Kanwan Katsina for his long-standing support to the media and communication profession, describing him as a trailblazer and one of the pioneer NIPR members from Katsina State during his time in the Customs Service.
Sajo expressed optimism that the revitalized Katsina Chapter would contribute significantly to promoting professionalism, transparency, and trust-building in public communication across the state.
