The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has announced plans to intensify its response to growing security threats by deploying additional officers to vulnerable states across the country.
NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja, on Friday.
Frontline Reporters had reported that no fewer than 77 people were killed, and 43 kidnapped in various terror attacks across 10 states in the last two weeks.
The attacks have also left over 1,000 residents displaced, with numerous houses burned.
In one of the recent incidents, 40 farmers were reportedly killed on Sunday in the Dumba community of Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State, by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province fighters.
Additionally, on Tuesday, Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Shikarkir community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, burning a church and several houses.
Commenting on the worsening situation, Afolabi explained that the increasing complexity of security challenges necessitated a continuous review of the nation’s security architecture.
He stated that the corps was ready to reinforce its presence in troubled areas, particularly those identified as high-risk or vulnerable.
Afolabi noted, “The volatile and complex security emergencies facing the country have necessitated the continued review of the national security architecture in order to contain the threat.
“As a major stakeholder in the handling of the internal security, the NSCDC under Commandant General Ahmed Audi, is ready to deploy more officers to the trouble area, especially the vulnerable areas.
“To enhance their effectiveness, officers earmarked for deployment will undergo specialised training designed to boost their operational skills and fighting spirit. This initiative forms part of the corps’ commitment to reinvigorate its approach to tackling internal security threats.”
Afolabi also highlighted the NSCDC’s role in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, including rail lines, oil pipelines, power installations, and communication networks.
