In an unprecedented turn of events, the streets of Kano have witnessed the sudden disappearance of the iconic red caps associated with the Kwankwasiya movement, as members reportedly desert Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the non-governmental organization. This mass exodus is attributed to an alleged betrayal of trust against the doctrine of Amana, shaking the foundations of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The NNPP, a promising political force, whose 2023 presidential aspirant , Senator Kwankwaso, is now embroiled in controversy following reports that 2.5 billion Naira of party finances are unaccounted for, prompting an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The scandal has led to some members of the defunct National Working Committee going into hiding, as the party grapples with internal strife and public scrutiny.

For three weeks, key voices such as Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, Bar Ladipo Johnson, Mr. Dipo Olayoku, and Alhaji Abba Kawu have been notably absent from both cyber space and front-line media networks. Their disturbing silence raises questions about their current involvement and stance within the party’s crisis.

As the NNPP headquarters in Abuja confirms these developments, there is growing concern over the whereabouts of these expelled principal officers since the EFCC began its investigation. The situation has also cast a shadow over the ongoing issues within the Kano State Emirship, leaving many to wonder about the future of both the movement and the political party at its heart.

The NNPP crisis marks a significant moment in Nigerian politics, as it underscores the fragility of trust and loyalty within political movements. As investigations continue and more details emerge, all eyes remain on Kano to see how this political drama unfolds.
Recall that the embattled Senator Kwakwanso, had been accused of betrayal, and disloyalty to the founder of the party, Dr Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam ,by the party leadership. He had also embarked on a failed attempt to highjack the party he only joined courtesy of the founder’s goodwill in 2022,by allegedly mutilating the party’s constitution and logo
