The meeting, which took place at the palace of the Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, was anything but ordinary. Mr. Adewale, in a candid address, revealed that the visit was not merely ceremonial but an investigative mission to unearth the struggles faced by the IDPs and forge solutions that directly address their plight. According to Alhaji Bello, “Bandits have forced families out of their ancestral homes, leaving children out of school and health facilities overwhelmed,” he lamented. In the agricultural heartland of Ketare, once-flourishing farmlands now lay fallow, as farmers were either driven out or reduced to exploited laborers on their own lands.
In a passionate appeal, the traditional ruler didn’t just recount the problems—he presented a roadmap for recovery. He urged the UNDP to spearhead empowerment initiatives, skill acquisition programs, and the reconstruction of homes for displaced families. Infrastructure development was another pressing need, with the Kanwan Katsina calling for potable water, feeder roads, and other amenities to restore the district’s vibrancy and functionality.
