The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results, showing improved performance among candidates and a significant reduction in exam malpractice.
Announcing the results on Wednesday at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, said 60.26 per cent of candidates obtained five credits and above, including Mathematics and English Language.
Out of the 1,367,210 candidates who registered, a total of 1,358,339 sat for the exams. Of these, 818,492 candidates (60.26%) passed with five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, while 1,144,496 candidates (84.26%) secured at least five credits irrespective of English and Mathematics.
Malpractice Cases Fall Sharply
In a major breakthrough for exam integrity, NECO recorded 3,878 cases of malpractice in 2025, representing a 61.58 per cent decline compared to 10,094 cases in 2024.
Wushishi noted that 38 schools across 13 states were found guilty of mass cheating and would face sanctions. He added that nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun States would be blacklisted for aiding malpractice and other misconduct.
Special Needs Candidates
A total of 1,622 candidates with special needs participated in the examination. These included students with hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism, and low vision. Wushishi described their participation as a testament to NECO’s inclusiveness and commitment to educational equity.
Withheld Results
The registrar also revealed that results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were withheld due to disruptions caused by communal clashes during the examinations.
Commitment to Standards
Wushishi praised President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for supporting NECO’s reforms, stressing that the outcome of the 2025 results underscored the council’s credibility, transparency, and dedication to quality education.
He further urged tertiary institutions to await the release of results from all examination bodies before finalising admission processes.
