In a powerful demonstration of patriotism and partnership for national peace, eminent businessman and philanthropist, Chief (Barr.) Success Obioma Akagburuonye, has donated a state-of-the-art Area Command Office to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogbor-Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
The multi-million-naira facility, equipped with modern communication gadgets, surveillance tools, and residential quarters, stands as a shining beacon of hope in the ongoing effort to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture—particularly in the South East, where insecurity has taken a heavy toll on livelihoods.
Commissioning the facility, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, hailed the project as “a monumental contribution to the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda to secure lives and restore stability across the nation.”
Represented by Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Nnamdi Nwanukwu, Dr. Audi commended Chief Akagburuonye for his rare show of patriotism and selflessness, describing the gesture as a practical example of citizens complementing government efforts.
“This facility will serve as a critical operational base for intelligence gathering, inter-agency coordination, and rapid response,” he said. “Chief Akagburuonye has demonstrated that security is a collective responsibility. We urge other public-spirited Nigerians to emulate his noble example.”
The NSCDC boss also lauded the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his continued support to security agencies through logistics and coordination, reaffirming that partnership between citizens, communities, and government remains the most potent tool against insecurity.
In his goodwill remarks, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Basil Igwebueze, called on wealthy individuals and community leaders to partner with security agencies to enhance peace and safety.
“Security cannot thrive without collaboration. Citizens must contribute intelligence, resources, and goodwill to sustain peace. The government alone cannot do it,” Igwebueze emphasized.
Delivering his own address amid thunderous applause, Chief (Barr.) Akagburuonye said the project was born out of deep concern over the insecurity ravaging communities in the South East.
“I was worried by the spate of violence and the fear that had crippled our economy. Instead of lamenting, I chose to act,” he stated. “I approached the NSCDC to ask if a private citizen could support their work, and they welcomed the idea. Today, that idea has become a reality.”
He revealed that the new command would serve as an operational base for the three local government areas of Mbaise — Aboh, Ezinihitte, and Ahiazu — providing a much-needed presence to deter crime and improve response time.
Chief Akagburuonye further appreciated the people of Ogbor-Uvuru for their unwavering support, noting that the community donated the land free of charge and contributed manpower throughout the construction process.
“This is our collective achievement,” he said proudly. “I urge the Corps to maintain discipline and professionalism in discharging their duties. My support will continue as long as peace remains our common goal.”
The commissioning ceremony, which began with a thanksgiving service at the Noah’s Ark Assemblies of God Church, Ogbor-Uvuru, drew traditional rulers, youth leaders, security chiefs, and community stakeholders, all of whom applauded the landmark gesture as a turning point for peace and progress in Mbaise and beyond.
With its ultra-modern design, surveillance infrastructure, and administrative capacity, the new NSCDC Area Command Office stands as a symbol of renewed hope and collective responsibility — proof that when citizens rise to the challenge, the dream of a safer, stronger Nigeria becomes achievable.
