Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a notorious drug supplier to fleeing bandits in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, Mohammed Sani, popularly known as Gamboli.
The 33-year-old suspect was apprehended at his hideout in Anguwan Fadama, Kuta, three weeks after he escaped arrest during a raid on his residence in Anguwan Makera, Kuta, where NDLEA operatives recovered 471.8 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said the arrest followed sustained intelligence-led operations, noting that Gamboli was a major supplier of illicit drugs to bandits operating in the area.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Abia State uncovered a clandestine codeine syrup factory at Amapu Igbengwo village, Umuakpara, Osisioma Local Government Area, where 9,015 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 1,152.2 kilograms were recovered.
In Ondo State, officers arrested a 55-year-old woman, Veronica Obi, and her 29-year-old son, Bright Obi, after seizing 1,187 kilograms of skunk and cannabis seeds from their residence in Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area.
The agency also recorded multiple arrests and seizures across several states, including Enugu, Oyo, Ogun, Edo, Gombe and Lagos, where large quantities of skunk, tramadol and other illicit substances were recovered. At the Apapa Seaport in Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted 170,000 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 23,579 kilograms during a joint container examination.
Additionally, NDLEA operatives intercepted no fewer than 907 pills of opioids concealed in containers of black soap and designer wears, destined for the United States, Canada and Sweden, through courier companies in Lagos.
Commending the officers involved in the operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), urged personnel across the country to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug supply reduction and drug abuse prevention.
