$600m Boost for Nigeria as Danish Port Giant Expands Apapa Investment

Global seaport operator, APM Terminals has disclosed plans to expand its investment in Nigeria with a fresh $600 million.

The Danish company is a subsidiary of AP Moller and concessionaire of West Africa’s largest container terminal located in Nigeria’s premiere seaport, Apapa Port Complex in Lagos.
APM Terminals is the concessionaire of West Africa’s largest container terminal situated at the Apapa Port Complex in Lagos, Nigeria’s busiest seaport.
According to a statement issued by the State House, the investment aligns with the economic reform agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading maritime hub in Africa.
Regional President of APM Terminals Africa-Europe, Igor van den Essen, disclosed the investment plan during a meeting with President Tinubu on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. He was accompanied by the company’s Head of Investments, Martijn Van Dongen, and CEO of APM Terminals Nigeria, Frederik Klinke.

Van den Essen noted that the proposed projects are aimed at boosting port efficiency, enhancing cargo movement, and supporting Nigeria’s growing trade ambitions through world-class maritime infrastructure.
President Tinubu welcomed the investment commitment, stressing that his administration remains focused on creating a more competitive business environment through sweeping economic reforms, infrastructure renewal, and strategic partnerships with global investors.
