As Nigeria prepares to celebrate her 65th Independence anniversary, the Federal Government on Sunday held a solemn service of thanksgiving and prayers for the nation at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.
The service drew top dignitaries including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and their spouses. Also in attendance were Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, and former Plateau State Governor Senator Simon Lalong.
In a strong show of national unity, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, led other service chiefs — Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap; and Controller-General of the Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, among others.
The prayers coincided with the unveiling of the official theme for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
According to Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information in the Office of the SGF, the theme underscores the need for unity, collaboration, and patriotism across government, the private sector, civil society, and citizens to drive national peace, prosperity, and progress.
The government stressed that the theme reflects Nigeria’s resilience since 1960 while calling on all Nigerians to consolidate past achievements and embrace the promise of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
