Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Henry Ndukuba, has carpeted the Federal Government over the increasing rate of poverty and insecurity across the country.
The primate said he was deeply saddened by the excruciating pains Nigerians were going through because of the festering insecurity and poor management of the country’s economy.
Ndukuba spoke in Mbaukwu community, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State during the inauguration of Renaissance Modern Polytechnic built by the Diocese of Awka, led by its Bishop, Alexander Ibezim, who is also the archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger.
The primate said: “Most of us seated here are better than our own sons and daughters. You have a son or daughter who has done more than you in degrees but what opportunity does he have?
“We have young men and women who have laboured and strived to better their lives but the system has crumbled. And, in fact, the things that made us what we are, the foundations upon which our lives were built for us to become who we’re today and what we are, are all destroyed.
“We are living in a time when we are surrounded and characterised by insecurity. We are living in a time when hopelessness abounds. And at times you are so depressed, so disgusted that you don’t know who to blame.
“Who will you blame? Everything is affected. And even when we look at the religious people, church leaders, gospel preachers, what do we see? We see materialism, selfishness, lack of fear of God and everybody pumping himself up, just struggling to survive.
And in that struggle, many things are destroyed.”
