Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s recent security initiatives, pledging to strengthen community-level security and improve intelligence gathering across their states.
The commitment came at the end of a two-day strategic meeting held in Lagos, where the governors also resolved to enhance support mechanisms for victims of violence. The gathering followed last month’s meeting of southern governors in Abeokuta, which advocated the creation of state police to tackle rising insecurity.
In recent weeks, President Tinubu has overhauled the national security architecture, appointing a new Minister of Defence, a new Chief of Defence Staff and fresh service chiefs for the army, navy and air force. He also directed the withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs so that more officers can return to core policing duties, alongside plans to recruit additional personnel into the police and armed forces.
Beyond security, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) restated its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration. Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, said the meeting allowed the governors to assess the nation’s political and economic direction and reinforce coordinated action.
“We met to assess where the nation stands, align our priorities, and reinforce our shared responsibility to the Nigerian people. Our commitment to the Renewed Hope vision remains unwavering,” Uzodinma said.
He stressed that every reform of the current administration must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians, regardless of location, gender or age.
Uzodinma also commended the Federal Government for its ongoing efforts to stabilise the economy, strengthen national security and lay the groundwork for long-term development.
