The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its 8th National Convention in Abuja, returning Nentawe Yilwatda as National Chairman alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The high-profile convention, held at Eagle Square, brought together top dignitaries including Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Assembly leaders, APC governors, and party stakeholders.
Consensus Produces New NWC
Yilwatda was re-elected through a consensus arrangement ratified by over 8,000 delegates at the convention.
Other key appointments include:
Surajudeen Basiru as National Secretary
Felix Morka as National Publicity Secretary
Dayo Israel, who retained his position as Youth Leader
In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda described his re-election as a renewed call to service.
“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and ready to build the party and the nation together,” he said, pledging that the new leadership would not “fail or falter.”
Tinubu Defends Reforms, Signals Economic Recover
Addressing party faithful, President Bola Tinubu acknowledged the challenges facing the country but maintained that Nigeria is on the path to recovery.
According to him, ongoing reforms have begun yielding results, particularly in boosting investor confidence and restoring credibility in the global financial system.
“We knew rebuilding Nigeria would require courage, patience, and difficult decisions. But no nation rises by hiding from the truth,” Tinubu said.

The oil and gas sector is attracting renewed foreign investment
On power supply, Tinubu assured Nigerians of improvements through initiatives such as the Grid Asset Management Company.
Governors, Ministers Back Administration
Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, described the reforms as foundational steps toward long-term economic stability.
“The direction is clearer, the reform logic stronger, and the prospects brighter,” he said.
Similarly, Minister of Finance Wale Edun noted that economic growth has improved from about 2% to roughly 4% annually, signalling a gradual recovery.
“Stability is returning, confidence is rebuilding, and the giant has reawakened,” Edun stated.
APC Eyes 2027 Elections
Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee and former Katsina State governor, Bello Masari, expressed confidence in the party’s electoral strength ahead of 2027.
“In terms of popularity, APC is number one… we are not afraid; we are ready,” he declared.
Masari also echoed calls for accountability at all levels of government, urging Nigerians and the media to properly assign responsibility for governance challenges.

With a refreshed leadership structure and renewed confidence from party stakeholders, the APC is positioning itself to consolidate power while defending its reform agenda amid economic and political pressures.
