Collation Of Results Of Nigeria’s Presidential, NASS Elections Continues Today

Two days after what many described as historic presidential and National Assembly polls, results are now pouring in from several parts of the country. 


Before the exercise, expectations were sky-high in Africa’s most populous nation as millions of citizens elect the country’s next president and lawmakers.

In all, 94 million citizens registered for the election; No fewer than 87.2 million of them have collected their permanent voter cards (PVCs) and were eligible to vote.

Bello Elrufai, the eldest Son of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has won the House of Representatives seat for Kaduna North Federal Constituency

Bello who contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the incumbent member representing the federal constituency, Samaila Suleiman.

Governor Ishaku Fails In Senatorial Bid

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has lost his election bid for Taraba South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The PDP candidate lost to his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart in the district, David Jimkuta. Frontline reports that the APC candidate polled 85,415 to defeat Governor who raked in 45,708 votes. The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Michael Magaji came third with 4,133.

08:59 pm: INEC Declares Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency Inconclusive

The Returning Officer for Gummi/Bukkuyum federal legislative seat, Professor Kabiru Abdullahi, has declared the result of the Federal constituency as inconclusive.

The election was contested between the serving member of the Federal House of Representatives Sulaiman Gummi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Ahmad Usman Gummi of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The candidate of the All Progressive Congress scored 13,789 votes, while that of the People’s Democratic Party garnered a total of 12,397 votes for Bukkuyum.

As for Gummi Local government, the All Progressive Congress scored 21,022 votes while the People’s Democratic Party scored 22,413 votes. A total of 4,738 votes were declared as cancelled votes by the presiding officer during the collation.

The results of eight polling units are awaited as fresh elections would be conducted in the polling units to determine the winner.

This warranted the INEC returning officer, Prof. Kabiru Abdullahi not to declare the result; hence there are eight (8) polling units where the election was cancelled due to serious irregularities.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is awaiting to announce another date for the re-run election in the eight polling units declared earlier.

Ex-Governor Yarima’s Son Wins Reps Seat

Meanwhile, the son of a former Governor of Zamfara State Ahmad Yarima, Abba has been declared the winner of the Bakura/Maradun Federal constituency of the state.

Abba Yarima polled 55,273 votes to defeat his closest rival from PDP, Ahmed Bakura who got 17,559 to win the Federal legislative seat

20:55 pm:  INEC Declares Yobe South Senatorial Election Inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the senatorial elections held in Yobe South district as inconclusive resulting from the cancellation of votes in unit 003, Manawachi Primary School in Fika Local Government Area of the state.

The INEC Returning Officer for the zone, Professor Saidu Abdulkadir Shettima, explained the decision became necessary for the fact that the total number of votes cast exceeded the number of votes accredited in the polling unit.

According to him, INEC will fix a new date for the rerun where only the affected parties, APC and PDP will participate.
