It was a day of transition and high expectations at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) headquarters, Zone ‘A’, Lagos, as Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) Charles Orbih on Friday, September 12, 2025, officially handed over leadership to Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Mohammed Babandede.
Orbih, who has now been redeployed to head the Finance, Administration, and Technical Services Department (FATS), described Zone ‘A’ as the heartbeat of the Service, praising officers for their professionalism and resilience.
“Zone ‘A’ has consistently upheld the highest standards of excellence and dedication to national service. From this foundation, the Service draws its strength and character,” he declared, urging personnel to rally around his successor.
In an emotional charge to officers, he added: “You are not just inheriting an office or a title, but the trust of committed officers and the responsibility of safeguarding the legacy of excellence that defines Zone ‘A’.”
Taking over the reins, ACG Babandede wasted no time setting the tone for his administration. He vowed to align with the reform agenda of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, with special focus on revenue generation, security, and trade facilitation.
“Anything that compromises national security or endangers public health will not be tolerated,” he warned.
Describing Zone ‘A’ as the Service’s “golden goose” for revenue collection, Babandede promised an inclusive, integrity-driven leadership. “I am a team player. I believe in working together as one family. With integrity as our compass, we will reach the promised land,” he assured.
The change of baton signals continuity and a renewed drive to sustain Customs’ frontline role in safeguarding Nigeria’s economy.
