Senator Seriake Dickson has called on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to end internal bickering and name-calling following a reconciliatory meeting with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Dickson disclosed this in a statement on Thursday after hosting Obi and other senior party leaders at a closed-door meeting that lasted about three hours.
The meeting followed recent controversies arising from comments by the Bayelsa West senator concerning criticisms and attacks allegedly directed at him by some supporters of Obi.
According to Dickson, the meeting provided an opportunity for party leaders to review the activities of the NDC and address issues that had generated concern among stakeholders.
“I just received my brother, colleague and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, CON, our presidential candidate, who, together with some distinguished leaders of our party, held a closed-door meeting which lasted about three hours,” Dickson stated.
The former Bayelsa State governor said all contentious matters were thoroughly discussed and amicably resolved, stressing that both leaders remain committed to the party’s broader vision and objectives.
“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues,” he said.
Dickson emphasized that he and Obi have always shared a common goal of strengthening the party and positioning it for electoral success while providing Nigerians with a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, that is, winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government,” he added.
While acknowledging that disagreements are inevitable within political organizations, Dickson noted that party leaders had agreed on mechanisms for resolving differences and maintaining unity going forward.
He urged members and supporters of the party to avoid divisive rhetoric and remain focused on the collective objective of building a stronger political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I want to use this opportunity again to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture,” he said.
Dickson further assured party faithful that consultations among Obi, himself and other stakeholders would continue to strengthen internal cohesion, address concerns, and deepen unity within the party.
He reiterated the leadership’s commitment to what he described as the shared mission of rebuilding Nigeria and delivering a better future for citizens.
