The esteemed founder and President of Igboezuo Development Union, Chief Leonard Okafor, fondly called Oba Ojoto, has heralded a promising future for the union’s members in the upcoming year, 2024.
Chief Okafor made the declaration at a momentous gathering of members of the Union on Saturday, December 16, 2023, during its Year End meeting held in Igbo House, Ilasa Maja area of Lagos state
Oba Ojoto acknowledged the myriad challenges that had hindered the union’s regular monthly meetings since the general elections in March 2023. Despite these impediments, he assured the members that 2024 would mark a resurgence for the association, with the implementation of a host of ambitious programs that had been conceived during the hiatus.
Chief Okafor’s commitment resonated with the union’s initial aspirations, which encompassed transformative projects such as Housing initiatives, the establishment of a Cooperative society, and the provision of Insurance cover for members, among other ventures. As the dawn of 2024 approached, Chief Okafor instilled confidence in the members, promising a year of greater fulfillment and the actualization of the union’s lofty goals.
The atmosphere during the occasion was electrifying , filled with high-spirited dancing and merriment. The palpable sense of unity and anticipation for a prosperous future permeated the gathering, as members eagerly embraced the promise of positive change and collective advancement.
With Chief Okafor’s visionary leadership, Igboezuo Development Union embarked on a journey into 2024 with renewed vigor, ready to turn their aspirations into tangible realities for the benefit of all its members.
Oba Ojoto had emphasized that Igboezuo was founded on the principles of love and truth to cater for the wellbeing of Ndigbo
He had reiterated that Igboezuo would provide refuge, accessible bank loans, among many others to members, adding that in line with the Union’s vision, he had donated a storey-building and is called IGBO HOUSE (meaning it is a home for every Igbo person).
He had also re=emphasized the group’s readiness to represent the Igbo people in Lagos state in all aspects of life and will be a voice towards the defence of the Igbos while promoting their growth, development and sustainability through building a cooperative society, while political aspect of supporting the state we are living in not in any way left out.
Chief Okafor also re-assured that plans were underway to register Igboezuo with the Corporate Affairs Commission , as well as commence formal registration of new members.
He said the union will thereafter proceed to finalize arrangement with an Insurance company to obtain a health insurance cover for all members of the socio-cultural union
He said the Insurance cover will take care of treatment of members and their children which medical expenses do not exceed N200,000.00
Chief Okafor further said that he was already in discussion with the Federal Housing Development Authority with a view to getting them build houses for all members of the Union at any location of our choice.
He therefore encouraged all well-meaning Igbos in Lagos who would want their names written in gold as those who contributed to the progress and development of Ndigbo to join the movement as a matter of credible task.
Recall that the memberships of the Igboezuo were drawn from members of Oba Ojoto Movement, the South east APC Professional Women Council, Ndigbo Grassroots Movement and Ofuobi palace.
The rest members came from Alaba market leaders, Honourable Women Foundation, Ohanaze Magazine Group, Frontline Media Group, Igbo Media Intelligentsia, Igbo Businessmen and Royal Daughters.
