Former Kano State Governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that he is mobilising a nationwide protest over worsening insecurity, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kwankwaso distanced himself and his party from the purported protest plan, warning Nigerians against spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension in the country.
According to him, the viral message does not emanate from him or the NDC and should be disregarded by members of the public.
“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” Kwankwaso stated.
The former governor reaffirmed his commitment to peace, stressing that neither he nor his party would endorse any action capable of disrupting public order or endangering lives and property.
“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property,” he said.
Kwankwaso noted that while insecurity remains a serious national concern requiring urgent attention, addressing such challenges must be pursued through lawful, peaceful and constructive engagement rather than actions that could escalate tensions.
“As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” he added.
The NDC chieftain further emphasised that democratic processes remain the most effective means of expressing dissatisfaction and pursuing political change, insisting that elections—not street protests—offer citizens the legitimate avenue to hold leaders accountable.
“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means,” he stated.
Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to ignore the circulating message and refrain from amplifying false narratives, reiterating his commitment to democratic principles and peaceful political engagement.
His clarification comes amid growing public concern over rising insecurity across parts of the country and increasing calls for stronger measures to address the situation.
