The League of Maritime Editors (LOME) has joined other well wishers in congratulating the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his recent election as the Chairperson of the Council of the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
In a congratulatory letter to the CGC Adeniyi signed by the President of the League, Mrs Remi Itie and Secretary General, Mr Felix Kumuyi, the association described the election as record breaking, being the first of its kind ever attained by the Nigerian nation.
The group attributed such ascension to global prominence as World Customs Organisation (WCO) to Adeniyi’s “astute leadership dexterity over the last two years CGC.
According to the group, the Customs Service under Adeniyi has done very well in revenue collection, surpassing budgetary targets.

“For us, this feat was as a result of your astute leadership dexterity over the last two years of your reign as CG of NCS, which have brought about increase revenue collection and surpassing budgetary targets, improved stakeholders relations, modernised operations and digitalised processes for effectiveness, as well as your robust contribution to the growth of the global customs administration, all of which have attracted both national and global commendations” , the League said in its letter.
The group urged Adeniyi to go a step further in bringing his expertise to bear at the 73 year old highest decision making body in global customs administration.
The League further said this will “ensure you meet and surpass all expected expectations to keep the nation’s flag flying high”.
President Bola Tinubu and many other individuals and organization had earlier congratulated the Customs boss since hie election on Saturday.
Adeniyi made history as the first Nigerian to head the 73-year-old organisation, which has 186 member countries and is the highest decision-making body in global customs administration.
