A new era has begun at the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as Comptroller Hauwa Abubakar officially takes over from the retiring Comptroller Olanrewaju Abdulwahab Olumo.
The transition comes on the heels of a historic revenue performance, with the command generating a staggering ₦459.84 billion between January and August 2025—a figure that already matches the full-year collection of 2024 and dwarfs the ₦74 billion recorded in 2023.
Speaking at a valedictory press conference, Olumo described the feat as “an extraordinary 500% increase in just two years,” attributing the growth to the professionalism of his officers, stakeholder collaboration, and the strategic use of technology under the guidance of Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
“I am proud of what we have achieved together. The support from stakeholders, the media, and my officers made this possible. I urge everyone to extend the same cooperation to my successor,” Olumo said.
Taking the baton, Comptroller Abubakar hailed Olumo’s record-breaking tenure and vowed to push the frontier even further.
“We will not only sustain this momentum but also raise the bar. With enhanced compliance, stronger stakeholder engagement, and the continued support of the media, Lekki Free Zone Customs will surpass expectations,” she pledged.
With ₦460 billion already secured in just eight months, analysts believe the LFTZ Command could deliver a record-shattering revenue haul by year-end 2025.
