The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Command, generated a remarkable N408.8 billion in revenue between January and June 2026, recording a 28.85 per cent increase over the N317.3 billion collected during the same period in 2025.
The impressive performance translates to an additional N91.54 billion in revenue, underscoring the command’s growing efficiency in revenue collection and trade facilitation.
Speaking at the command’s 2026 half-year media briefing, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Hauwa Abubakar, attributed the achievement to deliberate reforms aimed at strengthening compliance, enhancing operational efficiency and deepening engagement with stakeholders.
She stressed that the revenue growth was the outcome of strategic planning and sustained collaboration rather than chance, noting that continuous dialogue with importers, exporters, licensed customs agents and investors has fostered trust and encouraged voluntary compliance with customs laws and regulations.
According to her, the command’s consistent stakeholder engagement, education and partnership have created an enabling environment for legitimate trade to flourish while safeguarding government revenue.
Abubakar also praised the officers and personnel of the command for their professionalism, integrity and unwavering commitment, saying their dedication has further strengthened the confidence of the trading community in the Nigeria Customs Service.
She noted that the strong revenue performance reflects not only the command’s growing operational capacity but also the increasing confidence of investors and businesses operating within the Free Trade Zones under its jurisdiction, including the Lekki Deep Seaport.
The Customs Area Controller commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support, which she said have continued to drive the command’s successes.
She equally lauded sister security and regulatory agencies for their collaboration in enhancing security and facilitating legitimate trade, while appreciating investors, importers, exporters, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders for their invaluable partnership.
“The synergy among our various agencies has continued to enhance security and facilitate legitimate trade in line with the Federal Government’s economic objectives. Your partnership has been instrumental to the command’s success, and I encourage you to sustain this commendable disposition,” she said.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Abubakar expressed confidence that the command would consolidate on its gains, further improve service delivery and exceed its performance targets without compromising its statutory responsibilities.
She added that the Lagos Free Trade Zone Command has continued to distinguish itself as a model for trade facilitation within the Nigeria Customs Service, with its commitment to operational excellence, efficient cargo clearance and ease of doing business positioning it among the Service’s leading revenue-generating commands.
