Lagos is set to witness a convergence of maritime heavyweights as the League of Maritime Editors (LOME) stages its grand Seminar and Award Ceremony on Tuesday, September 30, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa.
The high-profile event, themed “Nigeria’s Chairmanship of the WCO Council: The Expected Benefits for the Nation’s Economy,” will spotlight Nigeria’s historic feat at the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
The seminar will dissect the far-reaching economic implications of Nigeria’s emergence on June 28, 2025, as the first African nation to produce a WCO Council Chairman since the body’s creation in 1952—a milestone achieved by Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who will grace the event as Special Guest of Honour.
Adding more intellectual depth to the gathering, respected customs broker, Chief (Dr.) Eugene Nweke, will deliver the keynote address, while top government agencies in the maritime sector will present strategic insights on trade facilitation and industry growth.
The ceremony will not only be about discourse but also recognition, as the League will celebrate some of the sector’s biggest contributors. Among the honourees are:
Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)
Dr. Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC)
