Amidst cheers and an air of purpose, the association showcased its achievements, raised a remarkable N100 million for its ambitious new secretariat project, and underscored its transformative influence on the freight forwarding landscape.
A Silver Jubilee with Golden Achievements
Since its inception in 1999, NAGAFF has evolved into a powerhouse, revolutionizing freight forwarding in Nigeria. The association proudly boasts the training of 50,000 practitioners, equipping them to drive the wheels of international trade across the country. At the celebratory event held at the prestigious Colonades Hotel, Ikoyi, the spotlight wasn’t just on its illustrious past but also on its bold steps into the future.
The event attracted the crème de la crème of the maritime industry and beyond, including the association’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, dignitaries from the Nigerian Ports Authority, traditional rulers, and seasoned industry leaders.
A Rain of Generosity: Raising Funds for the Future
The centerpiece of the celebration was the fundraising for the proposed N500 million digital secretariat. This futuristic facility aims to elevate freight forwarding by focusing on training, retraining, and embracing technology.
The donations poured in generously, led by Chief Emelie Okika (Oba Agbogidi N’Nri), who set the tone with N20 million and rallied an additional N3 million from associates. High Chief Azubuike Ekweozor (Ide Umuawulu Nwanayoeze) matched the energy with a N10 million donation, while the Ikorodu Chapter of NAGAFF chipped in another N10 million.
Not to be outdone, NAGAFF President Chief Tochukwu Ezisi matched the top donation with his own N20 million, bolstered by contributions from his network of supporters. The collective generosity demonstrated a united resolve to make the secretariat a reality.

In his address, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi highlighted the association’s pivotal role in transforming freight forwarding into a profession of integrity and innovation. “Over the last 25 years, we have built not just practitioners but a community committed to adding value to the maritime industry and the nation,” he stated.
Ezisi emphasized NAGAFF’s commitment to job creation and its role in reducing unemployment-related social vices. “By creating over 50,000 jobs, we’ve provided alternatives to crime, helping young people find purpose and contribute to their families and society.”
A Vision Beyond Borders
The President also called for collaboration with maritime agencies to adopt international best practices. “It’s time for the NCS, NPA, NSC, and others to step up and ensure our ports are competitive globally,” Ezisi urged, pointing to the need for seamless port operations and enhanced cargo vessel traffic.
Reflecting on the association’s advocacy efforts, he noted NAGAFF’s role in ensuring transparency and compliance, contributing to the exponential increase in government revenue through import duties. “We’ve been instrumental in blocking revenue leakages and setting the standard for honest declarations in trade.”
