As part of giving back to the school that nurtured them, the 1985 set of Mafoluku Grammar School (MAFOFRAM), Oshodi, Old Students Association has donated 10 units of all-in-one desktop computers, two units of laptop computers and one unit of printing machine, as well as 11 computer desks, 11 chairs and six electrical junction boxes to the college.
The presentation of the items took place recently at the school premises and was led by the president of the association, Opeolu Oyewole, and other members of the1985 set.
Speaking on the project, Oyewole, who is in the diaspora, was represented by Mr. Dili Utomi, secretary of the association, said “as little children, I have fond memories of the pristine nature of this compound with bushes and household wastes sharing spaces and the surrounding areas having patches of modernity until the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande declared a kind of emergency on education, clearing the space and building this school that we all came to know as the Mafoluku Grammar School, Mafoluku in 1980
“We are the pioneer set and the first set of the old students association and we feel honoured to contribute a bit in our efforts to make our school better. This school helped to mould us into what we are today.
“ We make a clarion call to all alumni of this great school to continue to show good interest in the school’s continuous existence in proper situation.”
Principal of the school, Mrs. Kehinde Obidake, said “I am the happiest woman today because the 85 set alumni blessed our school with computers and furniture and renovated the ICT classroom. It is actually nice seeing alumni giving back to their school and it will also go a long way to encourage students who are still in school that, when they graduate from the school, they will also give back to their school.
Obidake urged the old students to continue to exemplify the spirit of giving back to their alma mater: “Your support is a testament to the enduring legacy of our school and the commitment of the alumni to continue supporting success.”
The principal on behalf of the staff and students of MAFOGRAM, appreciated the members of 85 set.
The director of Curricula Science and Technology Education, District VI, Oshodi, Mr. Legbeh Paul, who represented the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of the district, thanked the 85 set for donating the items to the schoo
“We have seen some old students in other schools donate just one set of computer to their school, which cannot take the number of students to practice with the computer.
“I want to say a big thank you to the association not to donate money to the school but to donate what will shape the life, and by extension, the future of the students by donating 10 complete sets of computers to the school, this is wonderful.” He added: “This should serve as a lesson to the current students that they too will become old students and they will join the train of giving back to their alma mater.
This will serve as moral booster to them that they will do something better than what the 85 set has done. They have kick-started it and I hope other sets will emulate what you have done to do more for the school.
The Head Girl, Abdulkareem Wasulat lauded the old student for the renovation of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) classroom, noting, “the renovation of the ICT classroom and the donation of the equipment to ensure more academic learning that will aid our knowledge through technology. We promise to make good use of the computers and to maintain it and we hope that someday in future, we also will give back to the school.”
Utomi advised the students to take advantage of the opportunity and make good use of the computers provided. He urged them also to focus on their studies.
