Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including governors and allies of the Nyesom Wike camp, have begun reconciliation talks following the recent Court of Appeal ruling on the party’s leadership crisis.
Sources within the party disclosed that both factions are holding consultations to either establish a harmonised caretaker committee or organise a unity national convention aimed at stabilising the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The move follows Monday’s judgment by the Court of Appeal (Nigeria) which nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025 that produced Taminu Turaki and members of the National Working Committee.
The ruling affirmed an earlier decision of the Federal High Court of Nigeria that the convention violated the Electoral Act, the Nigerian Constitution and the PDP constitution.
Following the verdict, the caretaker leadership backed by Wike—led by acting chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman and acting secretary Samuel Anyanwu—has called on party members to unite ahead of a planned national convention scheduled for March 29–30 in Abuja.
Meanwhile, former Senate President Bukola Saraki urged party stakeholders to respect the court ruling, end internal litigation and work toward an all-inclusive convention that complies with guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Saraki warned that prolonged legal battles could jeopardise the PDP’s ability to field candidates in upcoming elections.
Also speaking, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees Adolphus Wabara and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde described the ruling as an opportunity for the party to rebuild and strengthen its internal structure.
Party leaders say discussions on reconciliation will continue as they seek to preserve the PDP as a viable opposition platform in Nigeria.
