The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has advised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), FCT chapter, to reschedule its planned peaceful protest slated for Tuesday over unpaid allowances owed to workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
In a statement issued on Monday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the appeal was made in the overriding interest of public safety.
According to the statement, the police are aware of the planned protest scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, within the Federal Capital Territory. While reaffirming respect for the constitutional rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and protest, the Command said it had received intelligence reports indicating that the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and other non-state actors were planning to infiltrate and hijack the protest.
The police warned that such infiltration could pose serious threats to public peace and security.
“In view of the above, and in the overriding interest of public safety, the FCT Police Command respectfully appeals to the organisers of the planned protest to consider rescheduling the activity to a later date and time,” the statement read.
The Command explained that the request was aimed at preventing any breakdown of law and order, while also ensuring the safety, freedom of movement, and lawful activities of other residents of the FCT.
The police further assured residents of their commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security across the territory.
