A powerful wave of royal endorsement has swept through Katsina as a prominent traditional leader openly praised Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for what many now describe as a historic transformation of the state’s traditional institutions.
The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, did not hold back his admiration while addressing journalists at the Government House shortly after a landmark ceremony at the Red Chamber. The event saw the formal presentation of promotion letters to district and village heads—an unprecedented move that has sent ripples across the emirates.
In a decisive policy shift, Governor Radda elevated district heads within the Katsina and Daura Emirates to the rank of Director on Grade Level 16, while village heads were upgraded to Grade Level 10. The move is widely seen as a bold statement of recognition for the pivotal role traditional rulers play in governance and grassroots stability.
Speaking during the presentation, the governor underscored the strategic importance of traditional institutions, describing them as the backbone of peacebuilding and policy implementation at the community level. According to him, their proximity to the people makes them indispensable partners in driving development.
“This elevation is not just symbolic—it is a deliberate effort to strengthen their capacity, boost morale, and reward their unwavering commitment to the state,” Radda stated.
He further revealed that the sweeping reforms are anchored in the newly enacted Katsina State Emirate Law, recently passed by the State House of Assembly, which formally provides for the upgrading of district and village heads.
Also lending his voice, the Kauran Katsina and District Head of Rimi, who spoke on behalf of the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, expressed deep appreciation to the governor. He assured that the traditional institution would rise to the occasion, pledging stronger support for government programmes.
With heightened responsibilities now comes heightened expectations—but for Katsina’s traditional rulers, the message is clear: a new era of recognition, responsibility, and renewed influence has begun.
