The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Aba, has admonished Abia residents to accept the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed Dr Alex Otti, of the Labour Party (LP), as the duly elected governor of the State.
The apex court on Friday ruled in an election petition appeal brought before it by the defeated People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 governorship election, Chief Okey Ahiwe, after it was thrown away by the Appeal Tribunal.
Following the judgment, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) called on the candidates of the PDP, Chief Okey Ahaiwe and his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Chief Ikechi Emenike, to apologize to Gov Alex Otti, and Abians for dragging a matter they knew they could not win and distracting the administration’s concentration from providing good governance to the people.
COSEYL, in a statement on the outcome of the case, said Otti’s victory was a sign of more good things to come.
According to COSEYL, “The PDP gubernatorial candidate, Mr Okey Ahaiwe and the APC gubernatorial candidate, Mr Ikechi Emenike, should apologize to Ndi-Abia, for distracting Gov Alex Otti, who the good people of Abia freely gave their mandate.
“The victory of Governor Otti at the Supreme Court is a call for more hard work, development, performance and transformational leadership.”
