President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday received a high-level delegation from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) at the State House, Abuja.
The delegation was led by the Commander of AFRICOM, General Dagvin Anderson, and included senior U.S. defence and diplomatic officials. The meeting was attended by Nigeria’s top security chiefs.
Details of the visit were disclosed in a post on X by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who noted that President Tinubu, alongside the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the service chiefs, hosted the visiting U.S. officials.
On the U.S. side, those present included the Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Keith Heffern; General Dagvin Anderson, Commander of AFRICOM; Command Sergeant Major Garric M. Banfield, AFRICOM’s Command Senior Enlisted Leader; and Ambassador Peter Vrooman, AFRICOM’s Senior Foreign Policy Adviser.
The Nigerian delegation comprised the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant-General Emmanuel Uandiandeye; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tosin Ajayi.
The meeting underscores ongoing defence and security engagements between Nigeria and the United States amid shared regional security concerns.
