Dignitaries thronged Katsina State on Tuesday for the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari died on Sunday in a London clinic after an undisclosed illness.
His body arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina, Katsina State, two days after his demise.
Leading the delegation is Buhari’s successor, President Bola Tinubu, who was accompanied by his vice, Kashim Shettima; the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and a former vice president, Yemi Osinbajo.
Governors in attendance include the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda; Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), among others.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, were also in Katsina.
While Sanwo-Olu was accompanied by the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, Mrs Tinubu was accompanied by the wives of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Deputy Senate President, Fatimah Abbas and Laila Barau, respectively.
Similarly, members of the federal and Katsina State executive councils, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril, as well as former Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, registered their presence in honour of the late president.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sent a delegation to Katsina for Buhari’s funeral.
Buhari’s body, draped in the Nigerian flag, was brought down from the Nigerian Air Force aircraft by officials of the Nigerian military at the airport in Katsina.
Tinubu was also on ground to receive the corpse.
The late president was Nigeria’s second-longest-serving president, having ruled the West African country as a military leader between January 1984 and August 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
