The entire Neke Akpani Autonomous Community in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State has been thrown into shock and grief as five members of one family were allegedly wiped out in a suspected food poisoning scandal laced with dark twists of vengeance, land dispute, and chilling hospital drama.
The victims, identified as Barnabas Ikeze, his wife Angela, and three children – Divine, Gift, and Victor, all members of the family of Pastor Ignatius Ikeze, reportedly fell ill after a family dinner on Friday, August 29, 2025.
What began as a simple case of stomach cramps quickly spiraled into a wave of mysterious deaths. Two of the children died almost immediately, while their parents and two surviving sons were rushed to FaithLand Clinic in Ikem. But in a bizarre turn of events, the parents and one more child also died under controversial circumstances, leaving only the eldest son, Marvellous, as the lone survivor of the tragedy.
Pastor Ikeze, speaking in tears, alleged that the poisoning may not have been ordinary but tied to a long-standing land dispute in the community. He claimed a man, who had openly vowed during a village meeting to “wipe out” his brother’s family, was seen loitering around the hospital where the victims were admitted.
Even more chilling, Pastor Ikeze accused a nurse of tampering with his sister-in-law’s oxygen and attempting to force an unknown substance into her mouth just hours before she died.
> “I caught the nurse removing the oxygen from my brother’s wife and putting something into her mouth. Before I could raise an alarm, she was gone,” he recounted bitterly.
The police have since arrested the alleged mastermind of the threats, while the nurse and the hospital authorities remain at the center of controversy.
As the community mourns the shocking loss, Pastor Ikeze insists his late brother, his wife, and their three children will not rest in peace until justice is served.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement as investigations continue into what many villagers now describe as a deadly mix of poison, betrayal, and a family feud gone too far.
