Tragedy struck Ridawa village in Ghari Local Government Area after a pit used for brick-making collapsed, reportedly burying several workers beneath the earth.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday while labourers were digging soil for brick production.
Eyewitnesses said the workers were inside the pit when the ground suddenly caved in, trapping many underground.
Local sources fear that several of the trapped workers may have died, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Rescue efforts were ongoing at the scene, with residents and emergency responders working to reach those still buried beneath the rubble.
The lawmaker representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, confirmed the incident, stating that about 10 people were believed to be trapped in the collapsed pit.
He called on the government to urgently intervene to rescue the victims and prevent further loss of lives.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency had not yet received an official report about the incident.
“We have not received any report on the incident. The Ghari office has not received a report, but once we get details, we will provide updates,” Abdullahi said.
