A political advocacy group promoting the 2027 presidential ambition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun outreach to labour stakeholders, seeking collaboration with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on reforms in the nation’s transport sector.The group, known as Transporters for Tinubu 2027, paid a courtesy visit to the union’s national secretariat in Apapa, Lagos, where it met with MWUN President-General, Francis Bunu.The meeting, held at the union’s headquarters at 119 Osho Drive, Olodi-Apapa, formed part of early engagements aimed at building support within Nigeria’s transport and labour sectors ahead of the next electoral cycle.Speaking during the visit, members of the delegation said the initiative was designed to foster structured collaboration between government, transport operators, labour unions and private sector stakeholders.According to them, the effort seeks to deepen grassroots participation in national transport reforms while supporting policies that enhance mobility, economic growth and operational efficiency across the sector.The group described the Maritime Workers’ Union as a key stakeholder within Nigeria’s transportation ecosystem, particularly in water transportation and port operations.They noted that the union’s influence within the maritime industry positions it as a strategic partner capable of amplifying advocacy efforts tied to the proposed Tinubu 2027 political movement.
Responding, Bunu thanked the delegation for recognising the role and relevance of the union within the country’s labour and transport landscape.He, however, reiterated that the Maritime Workers’ Union maintains a non-partisan stance in political matters.The labour leader said while the union supports policies and programmes that promote good governance and economic growth, its primary focus remains the protection of workers’ welfare and the stability of the maritime industry.The meeting ended with both parties expressing the need for sustained dialogue between labour organisations and sector stakeholders in shaping policies affecting Nigeria’s transport and logistics sectors.
