Seven of the 14 worshippers abducted during a deadly attack on two churches in Kaduna State have been rescued, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed on Monday.
The victims were freed in a joint operation involving the police, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services.
According to police spokesperson Anthony Placid, the attack occurred on April 5, 2026, when gunmen stormed an Evangelical Church Winning All and a Catholic church in Kachia Local Government Area, opening fire on worshippers.
“Five people were killed, and about 14 others were abducted during the assault,” he said.
In response, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed the Deputy Inspector General (Operations), Shehu Nadada, to coordinate rescue efforts and restore security in the area.
The police said the rescue team, led by Nadada, successfully freed seven victims, who have since been taken to Katari Hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining captives and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information as operations continue.
