The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, has called on the newly elected executives of the Alumni Association of Ahmadu Bello University, Katsina State Branch, to compile a comprehensive database of members to strengthen communication and participation within the association.

He made the call during the association’s Annual General Meeting and swearing-in ceremony of newly elected officials, led by Alhaji Bashir Bala Zango, held in Katsina.

The traditional ruler expressed concern over the low turnout of members at the meeting despite the association’s estimated membership of over 10,000 across Katsina State.

According to him, the poor attendance could be linked to the absence of a functional members’ directory and inadequate awareness efforts by the association’s leadership. He noted that detailed records of members would make communication and dissemination of information easier and more effective.

Earlier, the immediate past Chairman of the association, Dr. Gali Darma, while presenting his annual report, thanked members for the opportunity to serve two terms in office.

The newly elected officials include Alhaji Bashir Bala Zango as Chairman, Abdullahi Lawal as Vice Chairman, Hauwa Darda’u Rafin Dadi as Secretary General, Muntari Lawal as Assistant Secretary General, Samaila Dangani as Public Relations Officer, while Hajiya Badiya Lawal Danbo emerged as Financial Secretary.

The officials were sworn in by the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, who is also a member of the association.

He urged the new executives to uphold their oath of office and discharge their responsibilities with honesty, dedication and commitment.

Justice Abubakar also advised the leadership to embark on aggressive membership drives through courtesy visits to government agencies and tertiary institutions across the state in order to boost the association’s membership strength.

Other distinguished alumni at the event included Hajiya Binta Ladan, Alhaji Ibrahim Daku, Alhaji Lawal Safana, and Engineer Mai Maje.

The gathering also served as a reunion platform for old classmates to reconnect, exchange pleasantries and renew longstanding friendships.

Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara graduated from Ahmadu Bello University in 1981 with a degree in Political Science.
